Legon Cities FC will be aiming to secure their first win of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season when they host Medeama SC on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
After a tough opening match, the Accra-based side is eager to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat away to Bibiani Gold Stars last weekend, which left them 17th in the standings.
Following the loss, Legon Cities defender Frank Akoto expressed the team’s determination to recover and put up a stronger fight against Medeama. “It was not a bad performance at all. We lost, but we gave a good fight. Most of the players are new, but we keep talking to them and sharing our experiences. The next game is a home match, and we will go all out to fight for the points,” Akoto stated.
Meanwhile, Medeama SC kicked off their season with a narrow 1-0 victory at home against Accra Lions. The reigning champions are looking to maintain their positive momentum as they prepare to face Legon Cities, a team they’ve dominated in recent seasons.
However, Medeama head coach Nebojsa Kapor remains cautious, acknowledging the threat posed by Legon Cities. “Legon Cities are a good team with strong players. When we last played them in Tarkwa, we noticed how quickly they combine in midfield. This is something we will focus on as we prepare for the match,” Kapor said in his pre-match interview.
He added, “We need to raise our performance to a high level from the first minute and show what we expect from the game. As always, it’s about securing all three points.”
Historically, Legon Cities have struggled against Medeama SC. In their last six home matches against the Tarkwa-based side, Legon Cities have recorded two wins, one draw, and three losses.
Across their last nine meetings since 2020, Medeama has dominated with seven wins, while Legon Cities have managed just one victory, and one match ended in a draw.
This is a record that Legon Cities head coach Paa Kwesi Fabin will be eager to improve on as he leads his side into this crucial encounter on Saturday.
