The stage is set for an epic clash as Ghana hosts Nigeria in the first leg of their African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers on December 22, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Togolese referee Aklesso Gnama to officiate the opening fixture. He will be assisted by compatriots Jonathan Ahonto Koffi (assistant referee 1), Wassiou Tchamolla Ourotou (assistant referee 2), and Kossi Fabrice Senyo (fourth official).
The return leg, scheduled for December 28, 2024, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, will feature Moroccan officials. Hamza El Fariq will take charge as referee, with Abdessamad Abertoune, Zakaria Bouchtaoui, and Hicham Temsamani serving as assistant referees and fourth official, respectively.
This high-stakes encounter renews the storied rivalry between the two West African nations, with Nigeria’s Super Eagles B seeking to overturn past heartbreaks. Ghana previously eliminated Nigeria in the 2009 and 2023 CHAN qualifiers, adding an extra layer of intensity to the matchup.
Both sides will battle for a spot in the 2025 CHAN finals, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in February. As a key precursor to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, the tournament has added significance, ensuring neither team will leave anything to chance.
With a historic rivalry and a place in CHAN on the line, fans can expect fireworks in this eagerly anticipated showdown.
