Ghana football legend Charles Taylor has voiced his concerns about the current composition of the Black Stars’ technical team, led by head coach Otto Addo.
Speaking on Angel TV, the former Hearts of Oak star questioned the qualifications of some backroom staff members, particularly former defender John Paintsil, whom he believes lacks the experience required for his role.
“If you pick John Paintsil as an assistant, are you a good coach? Paintsil himself admitted he hadn’t reached that level but was still given the role. I want to know if the GFA or Otto Addo decides the backroom staff, because the current team won’t help him succeed,” Taylor remarked.
He urged Otto Addo to revamp the technical team, bringing in more seasoned professionals to enhance the team’s performance.
“The technical team members don’t deserve to be there. I said earlier that Addo cannot qualify Ghana for the 2025 AFCON because even his demeanour shows it. You have this wealth of talented players, so why can’t you qualify from a group of Sudan, Angola, and Niger?” Taylor added.
Taylor’s comments come in the wake of Otto Addo’s reported meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council on November 27, where the coach attributed Ghana’s AFCON qualification failure partly to the lack of experience within his backroom staff.
Despite Addo’s explanations, the meeting ended without a definitive decision on his future. The GFA has stated plans to consult other stakeholders, including political leaders, before determining the next steps for the Black Stars’ technical team.
