The Nigerian national football team, Super Eagles B, has unveiled an 18-man squad for the first leg of their African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying tie against Ghana’s Black Galaxies.
The match is set for Sunday, December 24, at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana, kicking off at 4:00 PM Ghana time (5:00 PM in Nigeria).
Stand-in Head Coach Daniel Ogunmodede has opted for a balanced mix of youth and experience for the crucial encounter. The squad features veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali, versatile wing-back Ismail Sadiq, dependable centre-back Steven Manyo, and sharp forwards Anas Yusuf and Sikiru Alimi.
The team has been rigorously preparing over the past three weeks at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo. Ogunmodede has been supported by assistant coaches Fidelis Ilechukwu and Olatunji Baruwa in sharpening the team’s strategy and cohesion ahead of the tie.
The Super Eagles B face a must-win scenario as they aim to secure qualification for the 8th African Nations Championship, slated to take place from February 1-28, 2025, across Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
The second leg of the qualifier will be hosted at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, on December 28, presenting an opportunity for the team to leverage home advantage if needed.
