Ghana’s U17 women’s national team, the Black Maidens, have advanced to the final of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Girls Cup after a commanding 5-0 win over Ivory Coast in the semi-finals.
Played on Thursday afternoon at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, the match highlighted the Black Maidens’ attacking strength and their determination to claim the inaugural title.
Right from the start, Ghana took control of the game, with standout forward Christana Ashiaku making a significant impact in the first half. She opened the scoring just 14 minutes in, giving Ghana an early lead and setting the stage for the team’s dominant display.
Ashiaku continued to shine, netting two more goals in quick succession to complete a first-half hat-trick. Her clinical finishing left Ghana with a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break, leaving the Ivorians with little hope of a comeback.
The second half saw the Black Maidens maintain their dominance, adding two more goals to seal the comprehensive victory. Zipporah Ayantoya and Seidatu Wahab both scored, capping off a dominant performance by the host nation.
With the 5-0 win, Ghana secures a place in the final and looks ahead to an impressive finish in the tournament.
The Black Maidens will now face the winner of the second semi-final match between Nigeria and Benin, which is scheduled to take place later tonight at 7 p.m.
