Ghanaian right-back Alidu Seidu has successfully undergone surgery after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) last month while playing for Stade Rennais in Ligue 1.
The injury occurred during a match against Lille, where Seidu was forced off the pitch just 18 minutes into the game, replaced by Senegalese youngster Mikayil Faye.
Following thorough medical examinations, the surgery was conducted on Monday, marking the beginning of Seidu’s rehabilitation process.
Stade Rennais confirmed the procedure and expressed their support for the Ghanaian international in a statement:
“Victim of a ruptured cruciate ligament in his knee during the match against LOSC, our Ghanaian international will now be able to concentrate on his rehabilitation and re-athleticisation. Strength to you, Alidu.”
Seidu, who is expected to miss the remainder of the season, will also be unavailable for Ghana’s crucial World Cup qualifiers in March against Chad and Madagascar.
Despite the setback, Seidu remains optimistic, sharing his thoughts on social media:
“My surgery went very well! Now to rehab. I’m going to work hard with the help of my people to get back on the field as soon as possible. Thank you everyone for your messages and support. It means a lot.”
Seidu had been in stellar form for Stade Rennais before the injury, earning the club’s Player of the Month Award in September.
The 23-year-old joined the French outfit in January 2024 from Clermont Foot and quickly established himself as a key player for the Red and Blacks.
