Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has stated that he will not revisit the reasons behind Andre Ayew’s exclusion from the squad for next month’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Addo made the comment during the squad announcement on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the GFA Headquarters in Accra. This marks the second consecutive time Ayew, the team captain, has been left out after also missing the squad for the wins against Mali and the Central African Republic.
In response to questions about Ayew’s absence, Addo emphasized the success of younger players in recent matches and reiterated that the decision is final, though he assured that the door is not completely closed for Ayew’s return.
“We did quite well playing young players, and I know it will get tough. I don’t want to explain myself why Andre is not here,” Addo said.
The Black Stars are set to face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on September 5 and will then travel to Morocco to play against Niger on September 9.
