Tanzania and Ethiopia had to settle for a point each after a goalless draw in their opening 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The match began with a cautious pace in Dar es Salaam, as both teams struggled to find their rhythm. Early on, possession was evenly split, and the game saw frequent physical confrontations in midfield.
Tanzania managed the first attempts on goal, but Seid Habtamu Aregawi remained untroubled in the Ethiopian goal. On the other end, Ethiopia’s Walyas found space in wide areas but faced resolute defending from the Taifa Stars.
As the first half drew to a close, both teams continued to struggle in penetrating each other’s defenses. The game remained goalless at half-time, with all efforts on goal falling wide.
The second half saw tactical changes, with Tanzania introducing Pascal Msindo and Ethiopia bringing on Binyam Fikre and Adis Giday. Despite a more aggressive approach from Tanzania, Ethiopia’s defense remained steadfast, keeping the game scoreless.
The hosts increased their attacking pressure as the match progressed but were unable to find the back of the net. Despite several late chances, neither side could break the deadlock, and the game ended in a tense 0-0 draw.
