Ghana’s national football team coach, Otto Addo, is poised to unveil his squad later this week for the upcoming doubleheader against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars will regroup this month for matchdays three and four of the campaign, seeking to turn around their fortunes after a challenging start.
Ghana opened their qualifying campaign with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium, followed by a frustrating 1-1 draw against Niger in Berkane. With only one point from two matches, the team is in urgent need of points to enhance their chances of securing qualification for the tournament.
Addo is expected to call up a strong roster, featuring key players such as Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams, and goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi. These experienced players are crucial for the team’s ambitions as they strive for a positive result against Sudan.
The Black Stars will host Sudan on Friday, October 11, before traveling to Libya for the second leg on Monday, October 14. However, the venue for the home match remains uncertain, as the Baba Yara Stadium was banned by CAF due to poor pitch conditions. CAF officials recently inspected the Accra and Cape Coast stadiums as potential alternatives for hosting the match.
Despite the venue challenges, the Black Stars remain committed to their long-term goal of clinching their fifth AFCON title next year in Morocco.
