England-based Ghanaian midfielder Amankwah Forson has been given a last-minute call-up to the Black Stars for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Forson, who had been initially excluded from the squad by Ghana’s technical team led by Otto Addo due to a shoulder injury, has made a swift recovery. The 21-year-old, who had been sidelined after sustaining a suspected dislocated shoulder during Norwich City’s Carabao Cup match against Crystal Palace, was initially deemed unavailable for the qualifiers.
Following further assessments, which indicated that surgery was not required, Forson returned to action and played 45 minutes in Norwich City’s 1-0 win over Coventry City in the English Championship over the weekend. His impressive start at Carrow Road includes two assists in six appearances this season.
This marks Forson’s second call-up to the national team, having previously been included in friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda in March. He is expected to join the Black Stars camp in Accra shortly.
The Black Stars began their training at the Accra Sports Stadium this evening, and will travel to Kumasi on Tuesday to continue preparations. Ghana’s AFCON qualifying campaign starts at home against Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 5, with a subsequent away match against Niger in Morocco on September 9.
