Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, revealed that they were determined to secure a win before facing Mali at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako.
Ghana picked up a late 2-1 victory over Mali on Match-day 3 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana had to dig deep for the points after Kamory Doumbia put Mali ahead in the 45th minute. Ernest Nuamah equalized with a towering header in the 58th minute before Jordan Ayew, assisted by fellow substitute Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, fired home the winning goal in the 94th minute.
“We had a win in our mind but I wanted to get to the game and have a feel first. For me it was very difficult to play a fully attacking game because Mali is a good team and it’s very, very hot here. So I have to see how the game will go and decide either to put more offensive players or defensive players. So in the end, we made changes by bringing on more offensive players and they scored for us,” he told the press after the game.
The team arrived at the Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi at 1:15 am via ASKY Airlines. Preparations will now continue for their next match against Central African Republic, scheduled for Monday, June 10, 2024.
