Egypt national team captain, Mohamed Salah, has hinted at the possibility of not being with the Pharaohs in the coming period.

Egypt lost to Senegal 3-1 on penalties to officially miss out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Salah played the entirety of the home and away games and was one of the three players to miss from the spot during the shootouts.

This was the second time the Pharaohs lost to the Teranga Lions in a span of two months after they lost to them in the AFCON final back in February.

Speaking to the players after the game, Salah said that they couldn’t control the fate of the penalty shootouts and is proud to have played alongside them.

“I told you before the second leg that I’m proud to play with you and you’re some of the most dedicated players I played with,” Salah said in a video published by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“I played with the previous generation with Wael Gomaa and Mohamed Aboutrika, then with Abdallah El-Said and the following generation. And I can say that I’m happy with the current generation.

“I’m proud to have played with you and what happened was out of our control because they were penalty shootouts, and for the second time.

“There’s not much I can say, but it was a privilege to play alongside you, whether I’ll be here or not afterward,” he concluded.

The sports minister, Ashraf Sobhi, then interrupted the Liverpool star by saying: “You will be here”.
