KAA Gent stars Elisha Owusu has admitted he was a little taken aback when he got his first invite to play for the Black Stars.

Otto Addo gave Owusu his first call-up before Ghana’s doubleheader against Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup playoffs in March.

The 25-year-old was a member of the first team put together by the previous head coach as the Black Stars narrowly defeated the Super Eagles to secure a spot in Qatar.

The Gent man revealed on Star Connect that he was surprised to receive the invitation to represent his nation.

“I was a little bit surprised because it was a really important game. I was in the squad before and to be called for those two games I was like ‘wow so big,” he said.

“I was happy and so proud. My family was very proud.”

He went on to make his debut for Ghana in the second leg against Nigeria at the Moshood Abiola Stadium as Ghana booked a spot at the World Cup.
