“Act on this case before it’s too late” – Ex-Asante Kotoko star Sadick Adams demands fatal accident compensation

Sadick Adams, a former Asante Kotoko forward, has added his voice to those who have expressed dissatisfaction with the delayed financial compensation for the team’s fatal road accident in 2017.

The accident occurred on the Nkawkaw-Kumasi road when the team bus carrying 15 players, seven technical officials, and two journalists was returning to Kumasi after a match in Accra against Inter Allies in the Ghana Premier League.

The tragedy resulted in the death of the team’s equipment officer, Thomas Obeng Asare, and multiple injuries to players.

While Kotoko received donations and support from various sources, Adams believes that the club’s management should have compensated all those affected, rather than singling out only one unknown victim for compensation.

“ Every single year a matter is raised and been remembered but those involved are bleeding ,crying and suffering inside …For the past 6years of this very sad tragedy , We’ve done and followed all the legal way by sending different kind of letters to Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC old and new board ,secretariat and palace .But always the same story .we will call you guys and find a solution to it..6years now NOTHING and to our surprised one person is been compensated out of the rest involved in the accident.. I just want to ask ,the one compensated is more important than the rest of the victims ? Please and please ,we are appealing to you KUMASI ASANTE KOTOKO SC to act on this case before it too late for us all…THANK YOU ..ADA99

Adams’ concerns add to the earlier grievances expressed by Sampson Appiah, the former goalkeeper trainer, and Isaac Amoako, a member of the Porcupine Warriors’ travel team.

However, the club’s management led by Nana Yaw Amponsah following outrage from a section of Ghanaians addressed the situation that happened under the past management, assuring that they will ensure the victims get the needed support.

In a recent development, the CEO of Asante Kotoko reached out to former goalkeeper Isaac Amoako, who confirmed the news in an interview with Oyerepa FM. “The CEO of Asante Kotoko called me on Friday. He asked for the details of the accident victims and assured us of taking the necessary steps,” he said.

Amoako further explained that some of the victims have been severely affected by the accident, especially the former goalkeeper trainer, Sampson Appiah, and former driver, Nana Berchie. However, the recent assurances from the management have brought relief to them.

“We are elated and relieved about this. We are hoping for the best, and we know this step by the management will bring relief to us,” he added.
