Group G of the CAF 2026 World Cup qualifiers commences with a clash between Botswana and Mozambique at the Francistown Stadium on Thursday.
Botswana, coming off a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Eswatini in a recent friendly, aims for back-to-back wins. Meanwhile, Mozambique seeks its first win in three outings after a 3-2 defeat to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Botswana’s recent win against Eswatini was their first in five outings since the COSAFA Cup group stages in July. With two wins and a draw in their last three home matches, the hosts are confident heading into this fixture.
Mozambique, on the other hand, suffered their first defeat in four matches against Nigeria. Facing a challenging task against Algeria after this contest, they are eager to start their World Cup qualifying journey positively.
Key players include Tumisang Orebonye leading Botswana’s attack, Ethany Mahoto missing out for the hosts, and Faisal Bangal, who has six goals in as many league games for Mozambique. Geny Catamo is unlikely to feature for Mozambique after sitting out Sporting CP’s last three outings.
