Asante Kotoko, a prominent team in the Ghana Premier League, has contested the ruling of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Disciplinary Committee.
The committee had imposed an 80,000 Ghana Cedis fine on the Porcupine Warriors for the vandalism of seats by their fans at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.
The incident occurred during a Ghana Premier League match in October, where a controversial penalty decision led to fan unrest during the 2-2 draw in week 6. In response to the GFA’s decision to levy the fine, Asante Kotoko stated that the ruling did not accurately represent the events of that day.
The club asserted, “We wish to place on record and for emphasis, that we do not agree with the decision as it does not represent the true and proper nature of events that occurred during the match.”
They highlighted discrepancies in the claims, such as Issah Amadu not being part of their officials designated to be on the bench or have access to the field and dressing rooms during the match. As a result, they questioned how the referee stated that Amadu attacked him on the pitch and raised concerns about the information provided by Mr. John Ansah, who allegedly informed the GFA to penalize Mr. Amadu.
“For instance, Issah Amadu was not even part of our officials in the match, designated to sit on the bench or have access to the field and dressing rooms when the game was in session.
“How then did the referee say he attacked him on the pitch? We understand that one Mr. John Ansah is the one alleged to have told the GFA to punish Mr. Amadu.”
