West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus has landed in Ghana, reinforcing the Black Stars’ squad in preparation for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The former Ajax midfielder, having touched down in Accra, is expected to join the Black Stars camp on Monday. While Kudus will miss the pre-AFCON friendly against Namibia on Monday, January 8, 2023, due to ongoing recovery, his arrival serves as a significant boost for Ghana.

Kudus, who delayed his stay in England due to a knock, expresses optimism and eagerness to join his teammates ahead of the continental showpiece. Ghana coach Chris Hughton values Kudus’s contribution, and his presence adds strength to the national team.

Competing in neighbouring Ivory Coast for the AFCON title, Ghana finds themselves in Group B, facing tough opponents such as record-winners Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde during the group phase.

The AFCON tournament is set to kick off on Saturday, January 13, continuing until February 11, 2024. Ghana, with a rich AFCON history, aims for their fifth title, having last secured the trophy in 1982.

Despite reaching the finals in 1992, 2010, and 2015, the Black Stars seek to overcome past defeats and clinch victory in the prestigious tournament.
