Former AC Milan forward, Andriy Shevchenko has been elected as the new president of the Ukrainian Football Association.

“Congratulations and the best of luck to Andriy Shevchenko who has been elected president of the Ukrainian Association of Football’, AC Milan congratulated Sheva via their X wall.

The 47-year-old former striker was one of the best strikers during his playing days and has therefore been charged to transfer the experience gained on the pitch to help Ukranian football reach new heights.

Andriy Shevchenko retired from football in 2012 after playing for Dynamo Kyiv, AC Milan and Chelsea in a career spanning 19 years, scoring a combined 235 goals in 497 appearances.

He won 111 caps for the Ukrainian national team and registered 48 goals.

The 2004 Balon d’Or winner, Shevchenko, is one of the most highly respected footballers of the 21st century hence Ukrainians have little doubt about his leadership.
