“We paid more than GH¢100k to use Accra Sports Stadium for our concert” – Stonebwoy’s camp challenges NSA boss’ GH¢70k claim

Chief Stylz, the manager of Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, has contested the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) assertion that his team paid GH¢70,000 to utilize the Accra Sports Stadium for Stonebwoy’s 5th Dimension concert on December 22, 2023.

In response to the statement made by NSA’s Director General, Peter Twumasi, to the committee on February 5, 2024, Chief Stylz refuted the claim, suggesting that the actual amount paid exceeded GH¢70,000. However, he refrained from disclosing the exact figure, citing contractual confidentiality.

During an appearance on Hitz FM’s U Say Wetin show on February 6, Chief Stylz, who led the negotiations and payment process for the stadium on behalf of Stonebwoy, declined to provide specific details, citing ongoing proceedings before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.

“To be very honest with you, these are contractual matters and usually I wouldn’t want to engage in a public space but the Public Accounts Committee is very serious and it got before the committee so I wouldn’t want to be here on the radio to state otherwise.”

“But what I can tell you is that I was delegated by Stonebwoy to lead the charge in terms of the negotiations and payment of the stadium. I can also tell you for a fact that yes, we paid more than GH₵70,000 for the stadium but I mean, I am just watching the issues unfold so I wouldn’t want to disclose them in detail for now. I hope you bear with me,” he said.

While confirming that Stonebwoy’s team paid more than GH¢70,000 for stadium usage, Chief Stylz abstained from divulging further information. When pressed if the amount exceeded GH¢100,000, he affirmed, but opted not to disclose the precise sum.

These developments unfold amidst the ongoing inquiry by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, which has been examining various matters for the past week.

Peter Twumasi, who assumed leadership of the NSA in 2018, has faced criticism over allegations of neglecting stadium maintenance and development, as well as accusations of prioritizing stadium rentals for concerts over the needs of Ghana Premier League clubs.
