Former Black Stars player James Kuuku Dadzie has attributed the struggles of Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko to the average quality of players in the league.
According to him, unlike in the past when the clubs boasted top-quality players, they are now filled with ordinary players who cannot compete at the highest level.
Speaking to Akoma FM, Dadzie stated that this issue is not unique to just these two clubs, but is a problem that affects all teams in the Ghana Premier League.
“You see, football nowadays is not about names. Kotoko and Hearts are struggling because the league’s players are average and of comparable quality,” Dadzie said.
The 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season was a disappointing one for both clubs, with Kotoko finishing 6th and Hearts of Oak languishing in 14th place.
As the two teams prepare to face off in the Democracy Cup on July 17, Dadzie’s comments may spark a debate about the future of Ghanaian football.
