GFA to consult stakeholders on Otto Addo’s Black Stars future after technical review

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans for further stakeholder consultations to determine the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo following his failure to lead the team to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The announcement came on Friday after a technical review meeting between Addo and the GFA Executive Council on Wednesday, November 27. The 47-year-old coach, who was reappointed on a three-year contract in March, presented his technical report and addressed the team’s poor performance during the AFCON qualifiers.

Calls for Addo’s dismissal have intensified after Ghana failed to win a single game in the qualifiers, finishing at the bottom of Group F with three draws and three defeats. This marked the first time in 20 years that the Black Stars have failed to qualify for the continental tournament, set to take place in Morocco in 2025.

In a statement, the GFA acknowledged the widespread disappointment among Ghanaians and emphasized the need for improved results in upcoming competitions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“The Executive Council and the Regional Football Chairmen shared the nation’s disappointment with the Head Coach at the meeting and the desire of all Ghanaians that the nation qualifies for the World Cup, hence the demand for better performance and results in the upcoming games,” the statement read.

“The Head Coach was informed that the Association would be holding further consultations with members and key stakeholders in the football ecosystem to enable the Association to come up with a comprehensive plan for the national team.”

The GFA is now focused on formulating a strategy to rebuild the Black Stars and restore their competitive edge on the international stage.
