John Ansah, President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), has condemned the violent death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, a dedicated supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, describing the incident as “barbaric” and a tragedy that must never happen again.
Frimpong, widely known as Pooley, lost his life following a violent altercation during a Week 19 Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Kromansah Park. His death has sent shockwaves through the football community and raised serious concerns about safety at football venues.
During a meeting with the Inspector General of Police, Ansah expressed his sorrow and called for immediate measures to improve security at league matches. “It’s a sad day for us in football circles. What happened to our brother is barbaric and shouldn’t happen again,” Ansah stated. He also praised the police for their swift action and pledged the full cooperation of the football community in addressing the issue.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Ghana Police Service has arrested six suspects believed to be connected to the violence. The arrests come amid widespread outrage and demands for accountability within the league.
Both the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the clubs involved have strongly condemned the attack, calling for urgent reforms to ensure such tragedies are avoided in the future.
