Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has shared his satisfaction with the development of promising English-born Ghanaian youngsters Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong, both of whom have stepped up impressively this season.

The pair caught Maresca’s attention during Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States, leading to their promotion to the first team. Since then, they’ve continued to grow under the Italian’s guidance.

This season has marked a breakthrough for both players, with George and Acheampong making their senior debuts and contributing to Chelsea’s push for a UEFA Champions League spot. The Blues are also through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Tyrique George, operating as a winger, scored his maiden Premier League goal in Chelsea’s dramatic comeback win over Fulham on Sunday.

“I’m very happy for Tyrique, him and Josh Acheampong, both from the academy,” said Maresca. “We decided to promote them because they are good talent, [and] they have to [keep] working hard.”

While George played a key role on the pitch, Acheampong was an unused substitute in the match at Craven Cottage, where Pedro Neto scored a stunning late goal to seal victory.

“Pedro’s goal—we all know that Pedro is better on the right side, but we also have Noni, we have also Jadon,” Maresca explained. “So I try to decide game by game, but Pedro is doing well since he arrived here.”

Both George and Acheampong continue to show promise and remain eligible to represent Ghana at the senior international level.
