Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu has shared his pride and excitement after captaining French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre on multiple occasions this season.
The 27-year-old has worn the armband three times in the ongoing campaign, stepping up in the absence of senior team leaders. Speaking in an interview with Flashscore, Owusu described the experience as a significant milestone in his career.
“I feel proud to have the honour to captain and help the team,” he said. “Auxerre is a very big club in France, and it’s a big honour to lead the team. I feel the responsibility to give my best and to help my teammates in the best way possible.”
With Auxerre having secured their top-flight status for next season, Owusu emphasized the team’s focus on finishing the campaign strongly.
“Our biggest target was to stay in the league first, and now that we’ve achieved that, we just want to win as many games as possible. Ligue 1 is difficult, but we will do our best.”
Owusu has made 26 appearances this season, contributing one goal and three assists. He is expected to feature prominently again when Auxerre host FC Nantes tonight at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps, with kickoff scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
