Belgian Pro League outfit Royal Antwerp have entered the race to sign Ghana international left-back Gideon Mensah ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, according to reports from the Belgian media.
The 25-year-old, who currently features for French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre, has attracted interest from multiple European clubs following a solid campaign in France. Portuguese giants FC Porto and English Championship side Sheffield United are reportedly leading the chase, but Antwerp are now poised to rival both clubs for the defender’s signature.
According to O Jogo, Antwerp’s interest in Mensah stems from their familiarity with the player, having monitored him closely during his loan spell at Belgian side Zulte Waregem in the 2020 season. The club believes his experience and growth since then make him a valuable addition to their squad.
Mensah, a former RB Salzburg and Sturm Graz player, has featured in 27 matches for Auxerre across all competitions this season. His performances have not gone unnoticed, and his current market valuation stands at €3.5 million, according to Transfermarkt.
On the international stage, Mensah has earned 26 caps with the Ghana Black Stars and remains a key figure in the national setup.
