Black Stars defender Baba Rahman has voiced his frustration over the poor state of football pitches in Ghana, revealing that it has become a source of ridicule among club teammates abroad.
The experienced left-back, speaking to Joy Sports, disclosed that Ghanaian internationals often face mockery when they return to their clubs after national duty due to the substandard playing surfaces back home.
“You go back to your club after international duty, and your teammates mock the country because of the pitches we play on. It’s honestly a national disgrace,” Rahman said.
His comments underscore the reputational damage Ghana’s inadequate football infrastructure is causing for its players on the international stage.
The issue gained renewed attention following the 2025 MTN FA Cup final, held at the University of Ghana Stadium, where the poor condition of the pitch drew widespread public criticism.
Having featured for clubs in Germany and England, Rahman emphasized that such mockery isn’t mere locker room teasing, but a reflection of how poorly Ghana’s football facilities are viewed globally.
He called on authorities to take urgent action to improve pitch conditions, warning that continued neglect will only further harm the image of Ghanaian football.
