Ghana international Baba Rahman has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to prioritize better planning and organisation to help restore the quality and competitiveness of the Ghana Premier League.
Speaking in an interview with Joy Sports, the former Dreams FC and Chelsea defender highlighted that Ghanaian clubs possess immense talent, but structural inefficiencies continue to hinder their progress—especially on the continental stage.
“Our league’s struggles aren’t because of a lack of talent. There are genuinely skilled players competing every week,” Rahman said. “But when it comes to African competitions, we don’t perform as well as we should.”
Rahman, who rose to prominence after moving from Dreams FC to German side Greuther Fürth in 2012, believes that poor planning and weak organisational frameworks have limited the league’s potential.
“The real issue is in the planning and organisation. Without improvements in these areas, it’s difficult to attract fans or support our clubs to do well,” he stressed.
His remarks come on the heels of Bibiani Gold Stars’ historic Ghana Premier League title win, clinched with a commanding 4-0 victory over Accra Lions on the final day of the season.
Rahman’s call adds to the growing chorus of voices urging football authorities to implement meaningful reforms that can position the domestic league for greater success both locally and across Africa.
