Ghanaian midfielder Edmund Baidoo achieved a career milestone on Tuesday night, netting his first-ever UEFA Champions League goal during Red Bull Salzburg’s qualifying clash with Belgian side Club Brugge.
Salzburg opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Jacob Rasmussen’s header found the back of the net, before Baidoo doubled the lead with a stunning volley in the 42nd minute. Goalkeeper Alex Schlager was instrumental in preserving the advantage, making several crucial first-half saves.
However, the hosts mounted a spirited comeback after the break. Seys reduced the deficit in the 61st minute, Forbs levelled in the 83rd after pouncing on a defensive error from Rasmussen, and Vanaken struck deep into stoppage time to seal a dramatic 3-2 win for Brugge.
Despite the defeat, Baidoo’s goal stands as a landmark moment in his young career, placing him among the select few Ghanaian players to score in Europe’s premier club competition.
