“We Ground It Out” – Jordan Ayew says after Leicester City draw against Oxford United

Jordan Ayew credited his team-mates for sticking to the task despite playing a long spell with 10 men to earn a 2-2 draw at Oxford United on Saturday.

The Ghanaian’s first league goal of 25/26 equalised Will Lankshear’s early opener, although a red card for debutant Aaron Ramsey and Boubakary Soumaré’s own goal before the break made getting anything from Kassam Stadium a tough ask.

Ricardo Pereira, though, struck after half-time to rescue a point and keep Leicester City fourth in the Sky Bet Championship – with everyone on the field battling hard to take something from .

“It’s difficult to analyse now but we got a point,”  said afterwards. “The boys stuck to it, we ground it out, we got a result. It will be a point that will be important for the future as well, so we’ll take it and onto the next game

“We were disappointed [to go a man down] because we wanted to get the three points. Listen, when you look at the scenario of the game, I think a point is good. We’ll take it and we’ll move on.

“The season is long, there’s still 40 or so games, so we’ll move on. In terms of performances, I think we did well. We played some good football, especially in the second half. We dominated the game. We could have scored more, but it is what it is. We’ll take the point and onto the next one.”

With new signings in the group and players coming back from injury, Ayew is optimistic for the future, with the Foxes having options to tackle a 46-game second-tier campaign.

“They’re really, really good signings, good players,” he added. “We came back [from international duty] three days ago, so we trained for a few days together. It’s really, really good, what I saw, and honestly they’ll help us.

“This season is really long. Everyone will play his part and today we saw some people come on and do their job. It’s going to be like that this season so we need everyone.”
