FIFA World Cup: “It’s a tricky group, we will do our best to qualify” – Asamoah Gyan

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan says he is confident that Ghana can qualify from their group at the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite being drawn into what many describe as a tough and unpredictable group.

Ghana has been placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama—a lineup that presents both challenges and opportunities.

England enter the tournament as one of the favourites, with a squad full of Premier League stars and strong tournament experience. Croatia also remain a powerful side, having reached the 2018 final and the 2022 semi-finals, led by a midfield known for its quality and control. Panama, though considered underdogs, continue to show improvement and will hope to cause surprises.

Speaking during the official draw, Asamoah Gyan encouraged fans to stay hopeful. “It’s a tricky group. We will do our possible best to qualify from the group stage,” he said.

Gyan’s optimism echoes the renewed belief among many Ghanaian supporters as the Black Stars prepare to restore their reputation on the world stage after missing out on the knockout rounds in their last two World Cup appearances.

The expanded format of the 2026 World Cup gives teams an improved chance of progressing, and Ghana will aim to take full advantage of it. With a blend of emerging talent and youthful energy, the Black Stars see this tournament as an opportunity to rebuild and push for a memorable run—perhaps even better than their famous 2010 campaign.

As preparations intensify, the message from both former and current players is clear: Ghana must fight, believe, and rise to the challenge of Group L.
