Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed that Ghana lost a major opportunity to produce a president of the Confederation of African Football following his exit from football administration in 2018.
The former Ghana Football Association President explained that, before stepping down, he was serving as First Vice President of CAF, a position that made him the most senior official after the CAF President at the time. According to him, this placed him in a strong position to ascend to the highest office in African football.
He indicated that his departure from the game brought an end to what could have been a historic moment for Ghana, describing the situation as a missed chance for the country to lead football governance on the continent.
Despite this, Nyantakyi noted that the possibility of a Ghanaian becoming CAF President in the future still exists, stressing that dedication and hard work could open the door for others to rise to that level.
Nyantakyi resigned from his roles at the GFA, CAF, and FIFA in June 2018 following corruption allegations that shook Ghana’s football administration.
