Italian Serie A club Cagliari Calcio are reportedly preparing to pursue a move to sign Ghanaian midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana during the winter transfer window.
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Cagliari are ready to open formal talks with Atalanta, the midfielder’s parent club, as they look to bolster their squad in the second half of the season.
The 22-year-old, currently on loan at fellow Serie A side Bologna, has struggled to secure meaningful playing time. Despite moving to Bologna with hopes of regular minutes to aid his development, Sulemana has only made four appearances this season, totaling just 112 minutes across the Serie A and Coppa Italia.
Frustrated by limited opportunities, Sulemana is reportedly keen on a move where he can play consistently. Cagliari, the club where he previously spent time, are seen as a potential solution, offering the midfielder the chance to relaunch his Serie A career.
Currently 15th in the Serie A standings after 21 matchweeks, Cagliari are eager to reinforce their squad to improve their chances of avoiding relegation. The club believes adding a hardworking and versatile midfielder like Sulemana could provide the necessary boost in midfield.
Sources reveal that Cagliari plan to hold talks with Atalanta later this week, with the aim of finalizing a deal before the close of the winter transfer window. A move would reunite Sulemana with a club where he is already familiar with the environment and could secure the regular playing time he desires.
