Former Asante Kotoko winger Charles Taylor has launched a blunt critique of the club’s current playing squad, claiming only a small fraction of the team is worthy of donning the famous red jersey.
Speaking live on Angel TV and Angel 102.9 FM, Taylor did not hold back in assessing the Porcupine Warriors’ struggles.
“Asante Kotoko is a big team without big players. Only 30% of the current players deserve to wear the team jersey,” he stated emphatically.
Taylor, who enjoyed a successful spell at Kumasi, attributed the club’s inconsistent performances to a lack of quality and character within the squad. He argued that Kotoko’s stature in Ghanaian and African football demands players with strong mentality, consistency, and match-winning ability — qualities he believes are largely absent in the current roster.
His remarks come amid growing supporter frustration over the team’s inability to dominate key fixtures, a situation intensified by concerns about recruitment, squad depth, and player mentality.
“Playing for Kotoko is a privilege and a responsibility. Only those who can handle pressure and deliver results should wear the badge,” Taylor added.
Kotoko will look to respond on the pitch when they face Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in their week 25 Ghana Premier League clash, a fixture seen by interim coach Prince Yaw Owusu as a chance to regain momentum.
