England-born Ghanaian defender Benjamin Arthur delivered another strong performance for Celtic in their 3–1 victory over Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, continuing his impressive start at the club.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who is on loan from Brentford, played the full match and produced a solid defensive display just days after making his debut in Celtic’s 2–1 win over Aberdeen.
Arthur, who was unexpectedly named in the starting lineup only 10 minutes before kickoff in the Aberdeen game due to a late injury, has quickly settled into the team.
Standing 6ft 4in, the defender recorded seven defensive contributions, including four clearances, four recoveries, a blocked shot, and won all three aerial duels against Motherwell. He also showed composure on the ball, completing 74 of 81 passes, with 17 of those in the opposition half.
The victory leaves Celtic on 61 points, just two points behind league leaders Hearts with eight matches remaining this season. Arthur’s emergence also comes at a time when Ghana’s defensive options are being tested by injuries ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
