The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that no final decision has been taken regarding the inclusion of André Ayew in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Communications Director Henry Asante Twum admitted that the veteran forward’s chances remain unclear despite increasing calls for his recall.
“Nobody knows if Andre Ayew will go to the World Cup,” he said in an interview.
Ayew, 36, recently signed for NAC Breda after leaving Le Havre and has scored once in 10 appearances since his return.
The former West Ham United and Swansea City attacker last played for Ghana at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where the team exited at the group stage. He has also been omitted from upcoming friendlies against Austria and Germany as head coach Otto Addo continues to evaluate his squad.
Ghana will further fine-tune preparations with matches against Mexico and Wales before heading into the tournament, where they are drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
For now, Ayew’s World Cup future remains open as the Black Stars finalize their squad plans.
