Ghanaian right-back Hansel Adjei-Afriyie played the first half for Southampton U21 in their closely contested 2–1 loss to Manchester United U21.

The 17-year-old, making his eighth appearance of the season, was tasked with defending against a potent Manchester United attack during the opening 45 minutes.

Adjei-Afriyie showed composure and maturity beyond his years, making timely tackles, tracking runs, and supporting his teammates defensively while maintaining his positional discipline.

While Southampton were ultimately unable to overturn the deficit, the young defender’s first-half display highlighted his growing confidence and adaptability in high-level youth competition.

His performance also reflects the trust the coaching staff places in him to handle challenging fixtures against some of England’s top youth sides.

As Adjei-Afriyie continues to accumulate experience in the U21 league, he is steadily developing the skills and tactical awareness needed to transition successfully into senior football. With regular appearances this season, the Ghanaian talent is positioning himself as one to watch in Southampton’s youth setup and a promising prospect for the future.
