Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Ghana’s Deputy Finance Minister, has described the country’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a major platform to promote Ghana internationally and attract investment.
Speaking at a fundraising event attended by President John Dramani Mahama, Ampem emphasized that Ghana’s presence at the tournament goes beyond football, serving as a strategic opportunity to market the nation on the global stage.
The event also had in attendance Sports Minister Kofi Adams and GFA President Kurt Okraku, alongside notable contributions from musicians Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, who pledged $100,000 and $81,000 respectively to support the World Cup Fund.
Ampem, who also chairs the fundraising committee, explained that the government is working with stakeholders to leverage the Black Stars’ participation for economic and diplomatic benefits.
“For us as a country, the Black Stars’ participation in the World Cup is an opportunity to market Ghana, to showcase and promote what the country has to offer globally,” he said.
He further noted that, in collaboration with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), the committee plans to organize investment forums in major cities such as Washington, D.C., and Toronto, where Ghanaian businesses will have the platform to present their products and services to international audiences.
Ghana will compete in Group L at the 2026 World Cup alongside England, Panama, and Croatia, with expectations high both on and off the pitch as the nation prepares for the global tournament.
