“I’m homeless and broken” – Ex-Black stars defender Edwin Gyimah opens up on family betrayal and career collapse

Former Ghana national football team defender Edwin Gyimah has shared a deeply emotional account of his struggles, alleging betrayal, abandonment, and personal hardship following a dramatic fall from professional football to homelessness.

In an explosive interview on Oyerepa FM, the ex-Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United player revealed how his life has taken a troubling turn after a once-successful career in South Africa.

Gyimah claims his downfall began after a fallout with his former agent, Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi, whose public criticism following a failed move to Magesi FC in 2025 allegedly damaged his reputation within the football industry.

According to the 35-year-old, accusations of unprofessional conduct led to clubs and close associates distancing themselves, despite him reportedly receiving numerous contract offers that never materialised.

However, beyond football, Gyimah says his biggest struggle has come from within his own family. He alleges that relatives took control of his properties, including an eight-bedroom house, under questionable circumstances.

He explained that what started as a financial request from his sister escalated into a complete loss of ownership, leaving him, his wife, and children without a permanent home.

“During my career, I sacrificed everything for my family—especially my mother and siblings. But after my fallout with my agent, everything changed. My relationships collapsed. My bosses, friends, colleagues, even my own family have all turned their backs on me,” he said.

“The industry has abandoned me. I received 21 contract offers within a year, yet none materialised. I turned to my family for support, even spiritually, but they ignored me. I feel completely neglected.

“While I was in South Africa, my sister asked me to transfer ownership of my house. When I returned to Ghana, I found it had been taken over. Today, my wife, my children and I have nowhere to stay—we are moving from place to place.

“I am deeply embarrassed and broken. I believe I am under spiritual attack from my own family. I have suffered accidents, injuries, and constant struggles. At this point, I don’t know what to do anymore.”

Gyimah’s story marks a heartbreaking fall from the heights of professional football to what he describes as a life of uncertainty and struggle, highlighting the harsh realities players can face away from the pitch.
