The Ghana Football Association has reportedly parted ways with Winfried Schäfer as part of ongoing changes to the Ghana national football team technical setup.
Schäfer was appointed in late 2024 as a technical advisor to support Otto Addo following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. However, his departure comes shortly after Addo’s dismissal, with the FA continuing its restructuring ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The move signals a broader overhaul of the backroom staff, with further changes expected as the federation prepares to appoint a new head coach.
Reports indicate that the incoming manager will be given the autonomy to assemble his own technical team, a key factor as Ghana looks to rebuild quickly before the global tournament.
Several high-profile names, including Slaven Bilić, Carlos Queiroz, and Fernando Santos, have been linked with the vacant role.
With time running out, the GFA is expected to announce a new head coach soon, with limited preparation time ahead of Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
The Black Stars have been drawn in a challenging group alongside Panama national football team, England national football team, and Croatia national football team, with their opening match scheduled for June 17.
