The Ghana Football Association has successfully finalized contract terms with newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz following detailed negotiations over salary and conditions.
Reports indicate there was a notable gap between both parties during talks, with the GFA initially proposing a monthly salary of $100,000, while Queiroz is said to have pushed for a figure close to $200,000 before an agreement was reached.
The negotiations also come into focus when compared to other candidates considered for the role. Former Saudi Arabia coach Hervé Renard reportedly demanded between $100,000 and $150,000 per month, but the GFA’s counter-offer of $50,000 effectively ended those discussions.
Queiroz has now signed an initial four-month contract, which will cover Ghana’s preparations and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The agreement includes a performance-based clause that could extend his stay to one year, depending on the Black Stars’ showing at the tournament.
The experienced Portuguese tactician emerged as the top choice from a three-man shortlist that also featured former West Ham United manager Slaven Bilić and former Mali coach Tom Saintfiet.
With the World Cup fast approaching, the GFA is eager to move forward quickly, giving Queiroz ample time to prepare the Black Stars for the global stage.
