Chairman of Ghana’s Parliamentary Sports Committee, Ernest Henry Norgbey, has thrown his full support behind the appointment of experienced Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, insisting the decision could significantly benefit the national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz, 73, was recently appointed by the Ghana Football Association on a short-term deal to lead Ghana into the global tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, replacing Otto Addo after his departure.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Panama, and Croatia, as they prepare for their fifth appearance at the World Cup.
Speaking on the development, Norgbey praised the GFA’s decision-making, describing Queiroz as a coach with the experience and authority needed to stabilise the Black Stars.
“For once, the GFA has taken a decision that will inure to the benefit of the Black Stars, and I’m happy for the choice they have made,” he said.
He further stressed that Queiroz’s long international coaching career and tactical discipline make him well-suited for the demands of tournament football, adding that his presence alone could command respect within the squad.
The veteran coach is expected to begin work immediately, focusing on squad assessment and preparation for upcoming friendlies as Ghana steps up its build-up to the World Cup.
