Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is set to receive a brand-new JAC Motors vehicle valued at $38,000 after being recognised as the best local player in Ghana’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku made the announcement during the 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, highlighting Asare’s contribution to the Black Stars during the tournament.

Asare was the only locally based player included in Ghana’s 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup, making his achievement particularly significant. Despite facing competition for the goalkeeper position, the former Hearts of Oak shot-stopper established himself as Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper and was trusted with two appearances at the global tournament.
The goalkeeper kept clean sheets in both matches he played, underlining his reliability between the posts. His most memorable performance came in Ghana’s goalless draw against England, where he produced a series of important saves to help the Black Stars secure a valuable point against one of the tournament’s highly rated sides.
His performance against England further strengthened his reputation as one of Ghana’s emerging goalkeeping talents and earned him widespread praise for his composure and confidence on the biggest stage.
Asare’s World Cup involvement also carried historical significance. He became the first locally based goalkeeper to start for Ghana at a FIFA World Cup, marking an important milestone for domestic football and demonstrating that players competing in the Ghana Premier League can still earn opportunities at the highest level of international football.
Since making his Black Stars debut during the 2024 Unity Cup, Asare has steadily grown in importance within the national team setup. His consistent performances at club and international level have seen him progress from a domestic prospect into Ghana’s undisputed number-one goalkeeper.
His rise has also provided encouragement for locally based players hoping to break into the national team. At a time when many Black Stars players ply their trade abroad, Asare’s journey has shown that strong performances in the Ghana Premier League can still open the door to international recognition.
The presentation of the JAC Motors vehicle, therefore, goes beyond the value of the prize. It represents recognition of Asare’s contribution to the Black Stars and his historic achievement at the 2026 World Cup.
With his confidence continuing to grow, Asare will now look to build on his World Cup experience and remain a key figure for both club and country in the seasons ahead.
