FIFA High-Performance Specialist Faisal Chibsah believes the appointment of Carlos Queiroz could signal a major turning point for the Black Stars, particularly in restoring discipline and structure ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association moved swiftly to appoint the experienced Portuguese tactician following the dismissal of Otto Addo, who oversaw a difficult spell that included four consecutive defeats in international friendlies.
With limited time before the expanded 48-team World Cup, Queiroz has been handed a short-term four-month contract to stabilise the team and guide them through the tournament.
Chibsah expressed confidence that the 73-year-old’s experience will positively impact the squad’s organisation and mentality, areas he believes have been lacking.
“He will bring a bit of discipline to the team, which for me was lacking a lot. We would see discipline and Ghana would definitely get an identity,” he told Joy News.
However, the former Ghana international also cautioned that managing the Black Stars presents a unique challenge, insisting that expectations in Ghana are significantly higher than in some of Queiroz’s previous roles.
“The challenge for Carlos now would be how adaptable he can be taking on Ghana. Iran, Oman, Qatar are not Ghana. Ghana, we expect more,” he added.
Ghana head into the World Cup aiming to reach the knockout stages for the first time since 2010, but face a tough Group L campaign against England, Croatia, and Panama.
