Liverpool’s Jeremie Frimpong was laughing when sharing how his family is divided in terms of football.
The family has lived in England, France and the Netherlands, so it is not a little surprising to hear that they all have different teams they follow.
Jeremie Frimpong, 25, was born to Ghanaian parents in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His family moved to England when he was only seven.
Frimpong spent nine long years at Manchester City’s academy between 2010 and 2019. Celtic signed him in 2019, where he made his professional debut, becoming an integral part of the Bhoys team that won the domestic treble in the 2019-2020 season.
Frimpong, in 2021, joined Bayer Leverkusen, where, under Xabi Alonso, they won their first-ever Bundesliga title in 2024.
After four years in Germany, Liverpool paid 35million euros for the speedster’s signature in the 2026 summer.
Jeremie Frimpong has so far lived in the Netherlands, England, Scotland and Germany and even has a French passport via his parents, making him exposed to different football cultures.
“In our house, we all support different teams. Dad and my big brother, Aaron, are the Liverpool fans. Everyone knew what was going on except him. He doesn’t follow the news here closely; he just listens to African news.
“So when it was getting closer to being completed, I said: ‘Dad, I’m going to play for Liverpool.’ He looks at me, and he’s like: ‘What?!’ He just looked so proud. I’m not a father myself, so I can’t understand that feeling, but telling him was unbelievable, the best present I could have given him.”
Frimpong did not reveal the exact team he and his other family members support, but his heart is with Liverpool now because he plays for them.
Liverpool has endured a terrible season after losing many key players to injuries.
