Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has spoken candidly about the intense pressure of representing the national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Manchester City attacker says expectations from fans remain extremely high whenever he plays for Ghana, regardless of his growing reputation at club level.
“In Ghana, the expectation is that every ball I touch has to be in the back of the net. If it’s not, you’re crap,” Semenyo said. “They love football over there; football is everything, so when we don’t do well, it’s a meltdown. There’s a lot of pressure.”
He also revealed he expects strong family support during the tournament in the United States. “Mum and Dad will be there for sure… uncles and aunties too,” he added.
Semenyo, who has three goals in 34 appearances for Ghana since his debut in 2022, has seen his profile rise significantly following his move from Bournemouth to Manchester City in a record transfer.
Ghana’s group-stage opponents at the World Cup include Panama, Croatia and England, with Semenyo expected to play a key attacking role as the Black Stars aim for a strong run in the tournament.
