Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Mohamed Camara has been punished by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after a disciplinary incident following a Ghana Premier League match against Karela United FC.

According to the GFA Disciplinary Committee, Camara has been given a five-match suspension, fined GHS 20,000, and formally warned. The punishment follows findings that he engaged in misconduct by assaulting a match referee after the final whistle.

The incident reportedly happened after Kotoko’s narrow 1–0 defeat in a tense league encounter in March 2026. Reports indicate that emotions ran high after the game, and Camara confronted the referee in an argument that escalated into physical contact. Kotoko had also been reduced to ten men during the match, which added to the tension.

The suspension takes immediate effect, meaning Camara will miss five important league matches for Kotoko. He has also been ordered to pay the fine within 14 days. The GFA warned that any further misconduct from the player could lead to even harsher sanctions.

This decision is part of the GFA’s broader effort to reduce indiscipline in Ghanaian football, especially cases involving violence or aggression toward match officials, which are treated as serious offences under its regulations.

Camara, a Guinean international and first-choice goalkeeper for Kotoko, is expected to be a major absence for the team during his suspension period.
