Ghanaian forward Mohammed Fuseini made a decisive late impact as Union St. Gilloise recorded a commanding 3–0 victory over KV Mechelen in the Belgian Pro League championship play-offs.
The 22-year-old came off the bench to score in stoppage time, calmly finishing in the 90+2 minute after being set up by Anouar Ait El Hadj, putting the finishing touch on an emphatic performance at the Stade Joseph Marien.
Union had already taken full control of the contest long before Fuseini’s late contribution. Mateo Biondic opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing from a precise assist by Anan Khalaili to reward the hosts’ strong start. The early dominance was reflected in their deserved half-time lead.
In the second half, Anouar Ait El Hadj doubled the advantage just after the hour mark, calmly converting after Biondic turned provider with a well-weighted pass. From that point, Union managed the game with authority, limiting Mechelen to very few clear chances while continuing to threaten going forward.
Fuseini’s stoppage-time strike capped off a dominant display and highlighted the depth in David Hubert’s squad. It also extended Union’s strong run of form, including consecutive victories over Mechelen.
Attention now shifts to a tougher test, as Union prepare for a high-stakes Belgian Cup clash at home against RSC Anderlecht on Thursday, May 14.
