Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has expressed heartfelt appreciation to SC Freiburg’s U23 team after making his long-awaited return to action following a serious injury layoff earlier this year.
The Ghana international admitted he was deeply moved by the support he received from the reserve side as he worked his way back to full fitness after a prolonged absence from competitive football.
“I am happy about my time in Freiburg. The team has always supported me, and recently I was taken aback by how the lads in the U23s welcomed me,” Kyereh said during his farewell ceremony after confirming his departure from the Bundesliga club.
Kyereh’s spell at Freiburg was heavily disrupted by a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in 2023, which sidelined him for an extended period.
The 30-year-old eventually returned to action in April 2026, featuring for Freiburg’s U23 side as part of his rehabilitation process.
He made seven appearances during that spell, registering two goals and two assists as he gradually regained sharpness and confidence.
Despite his encouraging comeback, Kyereh and Freiburg have agreed to part ways when his contract expires on June 30, 2026, bringing an end to a four-year stay at the club.
The former FC St. Pauli midfielder is now expected to prioritise regular playing time as he looks to revive his career and push for a return to the Ghana Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
