Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi believes the strong sense of unity and positive atmosphere within the Black Stars camp could play a crucial role in the team’s quest for success at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The FC St. Gallen shot-stopper says the squad has developed a close bond during its preparations and is determined to carry that togetherness into the tournament.
“I think it’s really a good group. We’re all together. We fight for each other. You can see there’s really positive vibes each and every time. This is what we like and this is what we want to keep up,” Ati-Zigi told GFA Media.
“We want to take this positive energy into the games. We hope that we can have a very good World Cup.”
The Black Stars have enjoyed a lively and upbeat atmosphere in camp, with players and technical staff working closely together as they prepare for football’s biggest tournament.
Ghana’s preparations began with a training camp in Cardiff before the team travelled to Washington, where they continued fine-tuning their plans under head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Queiroz was appointed just two months before the tournament following the departure of Otto Addo after a disappointing run of results. Since taking charge, the experienced Portuguese tactician has prioritised building team chemistry while implementing his tactical ideas ahead of the competition.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
Ghana will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before facing England in Boston on June 23. Their final group-stage fixture will be against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
With hopes of reaching the knockout stages for the first time since their historic quarter-final run at the 2010 World Cup, Ati-Zigi believes the team’s unity, determination and positive mindset could prove decisive as Ghana seeks to make a strong impression in North America.
