Black Stars forward Prince Adu Kwabena has expressed his delight following Ghana’s dramatic victory over Panama in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the occasion as a proud moment for both the team and the nation.

The striker, who was introduced as a late substitute during the tense Group L encounter at BMO Field in Toronto, played his part as Ghana pushed for a breakthrough in the closing stages. His energy and determination helped the Black Stars maintain pressure before Caleb Yirenkyi’s dramatic stoppage-time winner secured a priceless 1-0 victory.

The result handed Ghana a dream start to their World Cup campaign and sparked celebrations among players and supporters alike, with the four-time African champions claiming all three points in their first outing of the tournament.

Taking to social media after the historic win, Prince Adu Kwabena shared his excitement and pride in the team’s achievement, praising the collective effort that earned Ghana victory.

“First game and first win, great job from the whole team “

The former Bechem United striker’s message reflected the unity and togetherness within the Black Stars camp, with every player contributing to a hard-fought victory against a resilient Panamanian side.

For Prince Adu, the occasion carried even greater significance as he made his FIFA World Cup debut and experienced the joy of helping Ghana begin the tournament on a winning note. Though his appearance came late in the match, the striker embraced his role and showed his willingness to fight for the national cause whenever called upon.

Beyond celebrating the result, the forward also dedicated the memorable moment to one of the most important figures in his life.

“Proud moment mom”

Those heartfelt words highlighted the emotional side of Ghana’s victory, as players reflected on the sacrifices made by family members who have supported them throughout their football journeys.

The win over Panama not only strengthened Ghana’s hopes of progressing from Group L but also saw the Black Stars make history by becoming the African nation with the most FIFA World Cup victories.

As attention now turns to a blockbuster showdown against England, Prince Adu and his teammates will be eager to build on the momentum generated by their opening-day success. With confidence growing and belief spreading throughout the squad, Ghana’s World Cup adventure is off to a memorable start.

For Prince Adu Kwabena, it was a night to cherish—a World Cup debut, a vital victory for his country, and a proud moment shared with the people who helped him reach football’s biggest stage.
